While everyone’s distracted by the red dot, Minolta rocks up, invents both aperture and shutter priority in one tidy little body, and somehow does it smoother, smaller, and with less attitude than Le!c4’s entire personality. If you've shot an XD you know it just works, every time, with a shutter so refined it feels like it’s apologising for being that good, hell, Minolta even forgot to mention it had a program mode until it's second iteration. Slap some Rokkor glass on the front and suddenly the red dot mystique starts fading, because the photos look incredible and your wallet isn’t crying, well, not these days anyway. Le!c4 may have the aura and the price tag, but the Minolta XD has the brains, the manners, and the capital investment behind it that punched the first holes in an inevitable sinking ship.
